Maths Week Ireland started in 2006 and has grown to be the biggest event of its kind in the world.  Maths Week works as a partnership of groups(universities, institutes of technology, teachers education, professional bodies, visitor centres, schools etc) working to create a positive attitude to maths.  This year is the 13th annual Maths Week and takes place from the 12th of October to 20th of October 2019.

Maths week celebrates a positive image of maths all over the island of Ireland and is focused on the idea of ‘Maths Gets You Places.’ Last year over 250,000 students and their teachers participated in Maths Week Ireland activities.

Maths Week is observed in many primary schools and here at St Francis NS we are eagerly doing our part and are running our own special maths activities to coincide with Maths Week.  Some of the events which we have organised aim to provide a meaningful problem-solving fun experience for all students.  These include maths challenges in each class, maths puzzles in the hall, maths trails around the school and outside, interactive maths games online, quizzes for all classes, IZAK9 for Senior classes and Bee Bots for Junior Classes.  Pupils in 6th class have played an important role in this and have developed some fun, interesting and challenging Maths activities to enhance the mathematical experience of younger pupils through stations in the hall. Everyone had a super week!!!
